I have a USB floppy. When I first installed 9.1 there were lots of problems seeing it in the "My Computer" folder on the SuSE 9.1 KDE 3.3.x desktop, but after a few upgrades, things sorted themselves out and it all worked fine. Until now that is. I just re-upgraded to KDE 3.3.x to solve another problem (Open Office not starting) and now the "My Computer" folder no longer shows the USB floppy. I don't know if that has anything to do with the situation or not. My hotplug version is 0.44-32.22. My submount version is 9.9-33.6. I think these are the latest. Here is /var/log/messages from when I plug in the floppy (with a disk in it): Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon kernel: usb 5-6.4: new full speed USB device using address 7 Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon kernel: ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: qh f68da300 (#0) state 1 Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon kernel: usb 5-6.4: Product: USB Floppy Drive Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon kernel: usb 5-6.4: Manufacturer: Y-E DATA Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon kernel: scsi6 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Sep 24 21:10:05 avalon /etc/hotplug/usb.agent[7077]: need a device for this command Sep 24 21:10:06 avalon kernel: Vendor: Y-E DATA Model: USB-FDU Rev: 5.01 Sep 24 21:10:06 avalon kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Sep 24 21:10:07 avalon kernel: SCSI device sdb: 2880 512-byte hdwr sectors (1 MB) Sep 24 21:10:07 avalon kernel: sdb: assuming Write Enabled Sep 24 21:10:07 avalon kernel: sdb: assuming drive cache: write through Sep 24 21:10:07 avalon /etc/hotplug/block.agent[7140]: try 1 while waiting for /block/sdb's bus_id 6:0:0:0 Sep 24 21:10:08 avalon /etc/hotplug/block.agent[7140]: try 2 while waiting for /block/sdb's bus_id 6:0:0:0 Sep 24 21:10:08 avalon kernel: sdb: unknown partition table Sep 24 21:10:08 avalon kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi6, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Sep 24 21:10:08 avalon kernel: Attached scsi generic sg2 at scsi6, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0 Sep 24 21:10:08 avalon kernel: USB Mass Storage device found at 7 Sep 24 21:10:09 avalon /etc/hotplug/block.agent[7140]: new block device /block/sdb Note that just inserting a disk into the drive does nothing. I need to re-plug the drive to get the above log. It used to be that simply inserting the disk would result in it showing up in "My Computer". Now I get no log entry and nothing in "My Computer". The mount command does not show anything mounted. P.S. I also have a USB compact flash reader. When I insert a CF card into it things work just fine. The devices get mounted and show up in "My Comouter". Here is what the mount command shows after inserting a compact flash: /dev/sdc1 on /media/usb-storage-24901000073C:0:0:0p1 type subfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,sync,procuid,iocharset=utf8) -- Robert C.
