Can't use Crossover Office after 8.2 upgrade
I just upgraded from 8.0 to 8.2 and now I can't open any Windows apps in COO. I click on the Word icon and nothing happens. The system looks like it working but then dies. Anyone have this problem? Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

This is mostly likely due to the fact that both a newer kernel and gcc libs/compiler is in 8.2. You may need to recompile/install the COO plugin for wine. I would also see if those at the Crossover site might give you some insight as to how to remedy this. I understand that one must follow some fairly tight installation parameters for the COO plugin in order to ensure that it operates properly. That being what it is it would probably be prudent to see if they can give you a heads up in this regard. I think that many will find this sort of issue here and there due to the newer kernel and gcc libs. Oh, and it may also be that the installation and versioning has confused the program and it's looking for a symlink or something similar in version <pick a number>.xxx when the newer lib or whatever is version <pick a number>.yyy and this leads to the program not being able to find what it thinks is no longer there when actually it's actually there but has a different minor version number and there for the symlink points incorrectly at an older file/lib. Thanks for the info. Turns out I might need the new beta release of Crossover Office. Seems this might be the case. Thanks! Tom On Mon, 2003-04-21 at 11:04, Curtis Rey wrote:

There will be a new release of Crossover Office Version 2.0.0 within the next couple of days which will should run under SuSE 8.2. You can get a pre-release version (2.2.0 RC1) now at https://secure.codeweavers.com/store/login.php -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

OOPs - The pre-release is 2.0.0 RC1 BTW you should find the new release has some really nice features like directly interfacing to Cups for printers. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Just a guess here since I'm not a CX Office user, but maybe SuSE 8.2 has the same glibc 2.3 issues with CX Office that RH 9 and Mandrake 9.1 do? I know Codeweavers is working hard at releasing CX Office 2.0 in the next week or so that fixes both the glibc and the threading issues that are plaguing WINE right now. I'm pretty sure the SuSE kernel has not implemented the NPTL threading that the new RH kernel has, but maybe the glibc issue is present in SuSE 8.2. Codeweavers also just released crossover plugin 1.2.1 which now works for RH 9, Mandrake 9.1, and SuSE 8.2 (1.2 did not work). You may want to check over at the codeweavers' site and browse the archivse of their mailing lists and support tickets at support.codeweavers.com. I know there have been hundreds of postings about the glibc and threading issues over there. Check out the CX Office faq here: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/office/faq.php Good luck. An addition to this is that one has to use the 1.2.1 version of the plugins for it to work in 8.2. There is also a trick to getting the plugin to load inside mozilla. During the install of the new version of the plugins you need to uncheck the Netscape install and only have Mozilla checked for it's install. If you have both checked then it will crap on itself when you try to load the plugins in the browser. I spent two days screwing with this until I saw a hint in one of the emails on the crossover list. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe..
