[opensuse] "Plasma Desktop Shell"
After installing v11.2 with KDE4, I removed the Plasma Desktop Shell from the desktop, by way of experimentation; I do not remember if the context menu said "Remove", "Delete", "Hide" or something else). Now I do not find a way to restore it. That leaves me without the icons that were in it, to say nothing of whatever advantages I might derive from this feature. At the left end of the Panel, next to the chameleon K-menu, I find a widget labeled "Show the Plasma Dashboard", which I assume means the Plasma Desktop Shell. Clicking on it does not restore what I am seeking, but instead raises a tab called "Widget Dashboard", clicking on which does nothing that I can detect. This is my first experience with KDE4, and I am lost among the richness of terminology devoted to what seems to be a single feature. Can someone tell me how to get back the plasma gizmo(s) that I have misplaced? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you right-click the desktop and unlock the widgets, then right-click again and pick "add widgets", you can add to the desktop whatever widget you like and removed before. I guess the one you are looking for is the folderview which shows all files of a folder that you can define. you can even have more than one folderview or use folderview as "fullscreen desktop background". To remove the plasma desktop shell you would have to remove your kdebase package, as it contains everything, including features like panel, desktop background etc. What you did was to remove a widget. http://help.opensuse.org/kde4/ might also help to get some basic info. Right there lies a problem. In the menu that comes up after the MB2, there is no item "Unlock Widgets", although there is one called "Lock Widgets".

Actually, this is now moot; I intend to ditch KDE4 and return to KDE3. Among other reasons, I don't really have the time for another unnecesssary learning curve.
