[SLE] Tux Taking to the Air?
Hi, All - Some news: there's a *possibility* of my having a radio show on a local volunteer radio station. The show would be centered around Linux, Open Source, GNU, etc. One of the topics i'd like to broach initially is the various Linux distros. We all know SuSE 8)...but how many of us know pros and cons of other distros? Specifically, does anyone on the list have experience with: Debian (or its derivates, Corel and/ or Storm)? Red Hat? Yellow Dog? Coyote? Slackware? Caldera? Any others that i happen to have missed, and which you think might be worth mentioning? Any and all feedback is most welcome! As I heard it, SuSE started as a SlackWare springoff, but the resemblance is hard to find now. (Except that they are both Linux distros.) Actually, the very first version of SuSE was based on SlackWare and was merely a localisation of that distribution, but then (from the SuSE FAQ): 1995 Florian LaRoche joins the team. Based on his Jurix distribution, SuSE starts the development of an own Linux distribution. 1996 the first native SuSE Linux Distribution (SuSE Linux 4.2) hits the street. Don't forget Mandrake. For some reason, Mandrake is wildly popular here at WSU. I'm like the sole SuSE user here. SJ Black wrote:

TurboLinux is one that springs to mind. What about small distributions? Would any of them deserve a place in the list? I'm thinking of Trinux, Tomsrtb (is that right?), SmallLinux, LOAF, Pocket Linux, etc. Good luck with the show!
