Just got my 5.2, and I have one minor gripe: I think removing 'All' from the change/create configuration package selection was a mistake. Like many, I prefer to hand pick each package of my install, and I think having every package on one screen without having to F10 and go to another package group to make sure I included package X is easier than the new set up. How can I get the 5.2 distribution? I have given up on 5.1 on my Compaq 1070 laptop due to shutdown problems. Hangs after sending signal to kerneld. Also experienced anomalies re fs mounts. Occasionally would get an error on an attempt to mount (for example) the cdrom. Then could neither re-mount nor unmount. Volume was unaccessible. Had to reboot. Also experienced this on two different desktop machines, so I think it goes beyond being machine specific. Tried to revert to earlier (2.0.30) kernel, but can't compile the source. Get segmentation fault when linking. Re-try reboots machine. I am installing slakware 3.4, but would rather stick with SuSE for easier system management. What kernel version is being used with 5.2? -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Neither slackware, nor Redhat, nor Debian are going to fix your problems. Segfaults while compiling or linking, reboots, etc. indicate that you have a hardware problem, quite possibly bad RAM, bus noise, or (since you said you have a Compaq) the fact that the hardware is either not following the normal specs, or is plain old garbage. I've found SuSE to be more stable than other distributions I've used (just about all of them) in most ways. There are a few vendors that will preload SuSE; you may want to look at their hardware configurations for ideas. VA Research (<A HREF="http://www.varesearch.com/"><A HREF="http://www.varesearch.com/</A">http://www.varesearch.com/) is one of the largest. In fact, IIRC SuSE uses VA Research machines for their own workstations.
What kernel version is being used with 5.2?
A fairly heavily SuSE-ified 2.0.33, iirc. (I don't remember offhand;
I'm using Alan Cox's pre-2.0.34 series)

I've had problems about the segmentation error. Just sometimes when I go into the X, the xterm shows a 'Segmentation error' and doesn't work. Simon Karpen wrote:
