I have a mobo with a PP200MMX. I believe it is an ASUS. The only number I can find on it is GA-586HX R. Yesterday I had my system lock up really hard. I'm pretty sure I was in Netscape 4.06 when this happened. When I cold booted I could no longer see the harddrive that has the Linux root on it. The error was someting about having an invalid partition table, attempt to read past end of device. I attempted to run the Linux setup but that didn't work correctly. Fortunately most of my valuable data is stored on a second HD.
That is not a virus; it is a bug. Don't run Javascripts with ver 4.06

Hello, I can't comment on the Netscape Java comment, however, I have had the same problem when my boot partition went to hell. I don't know what you are using for a boot manager, but did you try to boot from a diskette? If you can then you might be able to repair the damage. If you don't have boot and ERU disks, shame on you. -ted Steven T. Hatton wrote:

Sure you weren't hacked? and someone badly damaged your system from inside?..Only Virus I have heard about lately is the one that is called the SUPER DUPER BIOS virus..but its mostly a prank. tho there is a fix for it..search djnews for virus, you'll see it right away. If its not a virus, then maybe you got hacked, though maybe qpopper, or someone who caught your passwords while packet sniffing. Well, if your Linux system can't be booted or got to and I had most of my important files saved somewhere else.. I would yes go ahead and try to totaly reinstall Linux, then if that worked, you know you don't have a virus, and someone hacked you, or you made a big error somewhere by yourself. Not hard to do sometimes ;) Well just my ideas on what maybe you can do. Steve Udell btw I had a dumb error once like that (somewhat) with the YoMoma, I was installing SuSE from the LiveFile system and not CD1 ;) but that is silly..anyways.. hope you get it fixed up...
