pppd: Terminating connection due to lack of activity.
Suse 7.1 on Demon. In /etc/ppp/options I have 'idle' variable set to 6000, but the line has terminated after just 5 minutes of inactivity. I edited /etc/ppp/options directly, is there some utility that I need to run to make this change take effect? I've not had this problem before, I've just upgraded from Mandrake 7.1. -- Colin Murphy - QL.4.Ever@bigfoot.com - ICQ# 13630409 A GLLUG Greater London Linux User Group organiser, for the 'mo. http://gllug.linux.co.uk
Do you have a file in the /etc/ppp/peers directory for your ISP. Check that it is not set there to 300 seconds. Avi --On Monday, March 26, 2001 00:43:22 +0100 Colin Murphy <ql.4.ever@bigfoot.com> wrote:

Hi Colin I used to use Demon when I lived in the UK, so I can tell you that it's not them timing you out! Are you just using pppd on its own, or are you calling it through something like wvdial? I use wvdial and used to have the same problems; changing /etc/ppp/options had no effect. I then found that there is a file, /etc/wvdial.conf, in which there was set a very short timeout. I bumped that up to a sensible figure, and now all is fine. Hope this helps. Matthew Smith Colin Murphy wrote:

I use Demon with FREESCO, and I'm pretty sure I get timed out after about 5-15 minutes idle (I've not bothered counting it). Maybe it's because I'm using SurfTime, whereas you were probably using standard pay-per-minute dialup. -- David Smith Tel: +44 (0)1454 462380 (direct) STMicroelectronics Fax: +44 (0)1454 617910 1000 Aztec West TINA (ST only): (065) 2380 Almondsbury Home: 01454 616963 BRISTOL Mobile: 07932 642724 BS32 4SQ Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk
