Hi, i used now the web-interface, there i was copying the contend of the file in. http://paste.opensuse.org/view//76635089 now its there. still the questions: a) why did my susepaste command not work. and b) what file is this, how to open it correct (linux only), because i have a customer who always send me such files and is not able to change format. simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Instead, "browse" to the file - but I only see "browse" when the file is an image. Weird.
http://paste.opensuse.org/view//76635089
now its there.
Yes, but with new line breaks.
still the questions:
a) why did my susepaste command not work.
I do not know, but I think it does not recognize the format.
and b) what file is this, how to open it correct (linux only), because i have a customer who always send me such files and is not able to change format.
I think his mail program altered it. The file was generated by "Microsoft Excel 9", but it has been saved as email, not as an attached file. You need to extract the file first from the email. (!). Maybe the correct extension is ".eml". I would suggest your correspondent to first zip the excel file, then attach the zip instead. If mail programs think this is text, they can alter it. For instance, text attachments in email, like this one: Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" can change the line end marking and charset when going from windows to Linux or reverse. This is perfectly legal per the RFCS! -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

maybe, but the sender is not able to change anything...... :-(((((((
file. You need to extract the file first from the email. (!). Maybe the correct extension is ".eml". i do not think, if i change to .eml and try to open with thunderbrid, i get a empty window.

sorry this i do not understand, but i do not think charset and or linemarkings are my problem. simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I can not say it is for certain, depends on the sending and receiving apps. But it is true, both can alter the files that are declared as "text" in transit. It has happened to me, and then the only solution is to zip the file prior to sending it by email so that it is treated as binary. Try to email the file directly to me, not to the list, but zip it first. Then I can have a go at it with an idea I have. I'm not sure, but I can try. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Seen it. Yes, the trick is to remove "mail parts". It starts like this: MIME-Version: 1.0^M X-Document-Type: Workbook^M Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="----=_NextPart_01C3B8B1.6DB8B6D0"^M ^M Dieses Dokument wurde f.r die Anzeige in Microsoft Excel 2002 oder h.her formatiert. Sie verwenden eine fr.here Version von Excel.^M ^M ------=_NextPart_01C3B8B1.6DB8B6D0^M Content-Location: file:///C:/CE594991/xls.htm^M Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable^M Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii"^M ^M <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"^M The new file has to start at the last line above, ie: <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"^M and it has to end just before the "next part". The probably correct name is given there, "xls.htm". I just used "one.xls" and libre office accepted to open it, but it is empty. The second file I do the same, and this time LO populates. It is a table, but I don't know if it is correct. There is another file below, declared as style sheet, and another as filelist: Content-Location: file:///C:/CE594991/xls_files/filelist.xml^M Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable^M Content-Type: text/xml; charset="us-ascii"^M ^M <xml xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">^M <o:MainFile HRef=3D"../xls.htm"/>^M <o:File HRef=3D"stylesheet.css"/>^M <o:File HRef=3D"sheet001.htm"/>^M <o:File HRef=3D"filelist.xml"/>^M </xml>^M So, maybe sheet001.htm is the sheet and stylesheet.css the formatting. Possibly in Windows and with the correct mail program that would be assembled into the correct excel sheet. I'd guess that your correspondent is using some functionality in excel to "send via email" which only works correctly with Outlook or Exchange. Terrible. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Had you already removed the Mail-Headers? metamail needs those, i.e. the stuff with "MIME-Version: 1.0" etc. Just save the _complete_ mail to a file and try again ;) -dnh --
