I wonder if they accept pre-orders? ;-)
If this was real, I would rush for it. But nobody really expects volumes 4 through 7 to be ever published, I think, even if non-negligible parts of the other books are written. After having published the first three volumes of the planned seven set, Knuth decided to see how he could alleviate the publishing trickeries, and launched himself into creating Metafont and TeX, and as you probably know, have chosen Pascal. (By the way, isn't it incredible to see how used are this publishing system, after all those years?) But while he was doing so, computer science was progressing. Some say that Knuth regretted having based the first three volumes on MIX, and did not go forward because of that. I do not believe that this alone would have stopped him, this is a relative detail. More importantly, he found out that computer science caught on him. When he started his project, he thought that computer science was still young enough for hoping writing an exhaustive treatise (and the first three volumes are a proof of how committed he was about this), but he lost hope of doing so, since then. -- François Pinard http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~pinard -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
