[opensuse] System error code 11.0 Beta3
I am trying to install opensuse 11 beta3 on an older PC, dell dimension 4400 with a 40gig drive and 128meg ram. This has happened a few times but when it goes to delete the existing partitions and make the new ones i specified, i always get "failure occurred during following action" deleting partition /dev/sda1 system error code was: -3002 And the install fails never to go any further. Maybe it has something to do with the swap partiton that you are now asked about during the initial configure? I tried to create a file but it does not create the file, i must select the swap partition to make it as far in the install as i have. Can anyone help here? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
It sounds like you are trying to delete the swap partition that is active and required because of the extremely small amount of ram. Don't delete that partition when you create your partitions and you should be good to go. On Fri, 23 May 2008 16:08:51 -0400 (EDT), Chris Arnold <carnold@electrichendrix.com> wrote:

I stuck another 128 into it and am good to go. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That ram is probably insuficient. You need a swap partition, created before you run the install; ie, probably you can not create it using the current suse install disk, but with something else (there are specialized rescue distros around, for instance). Later, I think you have to activate that swap partition manually if it is not dtected and used automatically. I think the procedure is explained in the wiki somewhere, and also has been explained in this list, you can search the archive. Someone else might know the exact link. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. 128 meg is far too less memory, at least for graphical install.
system error code was: -3002
For problems with openSUSE 11.0 *please* use the opensuse-factory mailing list as there you'll get much better help than here. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
