[opensuse] 15.2 Beta -- graphical.target locks when run from Current Virtualbox 5.2.42 branch
Devs, 15.2 installs fine, but then X locks when graphical.target started when running withing Virtualbox 5.2.42. (current 5.2 branch supported release by Oracle). Apparently 15.2 has hardwired modules for VBox 6.0.X that are now completely incompatible with 15.2 and lock the machine as soon as the graphical target is reached (two virtualbox messages momentarily appear before the black-screen lockup -- requiring a hard shutdown) Booting rescue and changing the default.target to multi-user.target and the box boots fine to the CLI and login is fine, but X cannot be started. In 15.1 there were 4 error dialogs displayed on graphic.target start, but they were explained as harmless (and they were on 15.1, X worked fine on VirtualBox 5.2.42 after the VB 6.0.x error messages were canceled on desktop start. No more. The hardwired VB 6.0.x module now lock X on 15.2 when running from the VirtualBox 5.2 branch. This needs to be fixed. -- David C. If you are running VBox 5.2 branch, you must remove the virtualbox-guest-x11 and the other vitrualbox-guest-foo module as they are for 6.1 and will lock your desktop as X is started. zypper rm those modules On your host, attach the virtualboxguestadditions.iso to your cd drive On the guest mount /dev/sr0 /mnt then as root (with the kernel-source installed [and gcc and perl]) /mnt/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run once the 5.2 kernel modules are built, reboot and you are good to go. -- David C.
