Though another option, if you have used linux before, and want to customize everything from start to finish and don't mind learning all the minute details, then try Slakware. :) though I find SuSE to have many similarities to Slak.
I got my first start with Slackware with release 1.1 about 4 years ago. I couldn't get X to run at all, but I did discover Midnight Commander. That was worth it. I did like the way they set it up to allow installation through a set of floppies. All .tgz files too, no rpm's. :-) I was reading somewhere on the suse web site about the history of it, and it seems that Suse is a "descendent" of Slackware. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
