[opensuse] Drivers for Intel graphic card GMA 4500MHD
A thorough search of the Intel downloads pages failed to find a download source for drivers for the card GMA 4500MHD (or any other GMA cards). After several hours, I did find a remark that such drivers should be obtained from the download sources of ones own distribution. I have also made a Google search without finding anything, and searched the usual download repositories through YaST, also without success. Where, if at all, might the needed driver be found? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&client=firefox- a&rls=org.mozilla%3Ade%3Aofficial&hs=Hsq&q=intel+graphics+driver+linux If you search in YaST and do not find anything, enable things like "search in description" or "provides" it will lead you to xorg-x11-driver-video, which provides xorg-x11-driver-video-intel. For Intel graphics driver you should not need to download anything as they are part of Xorg. their performance might however depend on the Xorg version and kernel you use. Unlike NVidia & ATI, Intel puts its Linux driver efforts directly into open source, not proprietary drivers that need to be downloaded separately. If GMA4500 has been around longer than 6 months, what you need is probably already in xorg-x11-driver-video in the openSUSE repositories. If it's too new, you may want to join http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg to get the status or other help. -- "The Scriptures tell us righteousness exalteth a Nation." 2nd U.S. President, John Adams Team OS/2 ** Reg. Thanks, Felix. I had already joined half a dozen forums looking for advice, but the one you suggest never dawned on me. GMA4500, by the way, is for desktops. The MHD suffix is for laptops, "Mobile Hight Definition". Apparently not interchangeable. Thanks also to Sven. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Greets Stan :) Did you eventually get drivers working for your Intel GMA 4500MHD? Can you get your resolution up to the max resolution of 2048x1536 16M colours? Any HMDI [2] issues? I'm considering acquiring the Lenovo ThinkPad T500 Series Notebook NL37SZA [1], which has the same chipset mentioned. Your opinion && insight appreciated :) Stuart [1] http://www.lenovonotebooks.co.za/laptop-specification-sheet.php?laptop=28336 [2] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1147885 -- Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
