pcmcia wireless card configuration (is this list working?)

Hi, I'm fairly new to linux and have installed it on my Compaq Presario 2800T laptop. Today I bought a Linksys Wireless-B Notebook Adapter (pcmcia wireless lan card) model number WPC11 ver.4 and I'm trying to configure it to work with the wireless network at my law school. I'm also running the Ximian Desktop2 (XD2), if that makes any difference. The computer seems to recognize the pcmcia card just fine but I cannot find any application or options in YaST2 to configure settings for a wireless card. Does anyone know how to do this? Also, I've sent this email to the list twice now. Sorry if it shows up both times. I've waited over 2 hours and still haven't seen my original message, so I'm wondering if this is working. I guess time will tell. Thanks in advance for your help. Jack Brooks

Open up YaST and go to "Network Devices" and then "Network Card". If your wireless card is already configured, click "change", if not, select it and click "configure". Under "Hardware Options" there is a button for Wireless Settings. If you're using encryption, you can either enter the key in HEX form, or as a string with the prefix "s:". For instance, if your password is "bubble35", you can enter "s:bubble35". Hope that helps, Bruce

What a gem... Where did you find that out? I was cutting and pasteing the hex strings all this time. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

It's in the docs, but it doesn't stand out. Also, in the YaST help bar (on the left side....scroll down a bit ;-)

No, seriously, I don't have that. It's not in YaST, anywhere. I don't know where else to look. Also, I have to apologize because I know absolutely nothing about editing files myself, so if I have to do that, I'll need step by step instructions. I really appreciate the help and everyone's patience. Jack
