Oops
I've trie all that, but I still have some problems. First of all, "agpart" doesn't work with my motherboard : I've tried to re-compile it but I've still an "error : device busy" loading it in the kernel (even with the option agp_try_unsuported=1). So, I've tried without this modul, but when I launch the server, the system freeze or display big withe lines on the screen... It seems to be the same probleme that in tomshardware...
My configuration : - suse 7.0 - kernel 2.2.16 (recompiled) - NVIDIA_GLX - 0.9-5 (recompiled) - NVIDIA_kernel - 0.9-5 (recompiled : he's loaded correctly) - XFree 4.0.1
Motherboard : ASUS P5A-B (bios 1008) C. ALADDIN Graphic card : Creative Labs GeForce2 MX (GB0030)
What could I try ??? Idea ? thx...

óh and the driver for nvidia probably wont install properly unless you do th insmod command ( as per tomshardware ) first.
also. i got loads of errors when compiling, but it still produced the driver. Except for one error concerning Intel840 or something similar in os-interface.c which you have to compile out. ( again, im speaking off the top of my head here )

Oh gawd, yes i have managed it. And contrary to the advice on this list, its still a bugger even when you know what you are doing.
I will try and write my steps to re-installation in the next couple of days. If i can find the notes i made.
The key points i found after repeat attempts. were 1) Recompile the kernel 2) Install suse ftp xfree86 4.01 3) get the drivers from nvidia site 4) compile the above 5) make sure that you can call insmod agpgart with the parameters from tomshardware.com 6) use xf86config to build an /etc/X11/XF86config file. 7) call xserver using xinit and the XFree86 server name as a parameter /usr/X11/bin/XFree86 or something like that
and err that should work
you get better advice from Lenz, i did all this before he mentioned how to do it.
