[opensuse] does anyone have gallery2 on 13.1 running?
I have installed gallery2 from rpm (server_php_applications) on 13.1 and running. Trying to access to run the setup: http://<web-server>/gallery2 url changes to http://<web-server>/gallery2/install and shows 404. I used to run the zip package from menalto/gallery but want to use openSUSE packages if possible. tks, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

tks,
Coincidentally, I installed it here, just to test drive it. ISTR I had to type localhost/gallery2/install into the address bar to get the installer script started. Not sure what you'd do if it's installed on a remote server. well, I have w3m on the server but it also gets a 404. I guess I can install a minimal, "graphical" web browser, but suspect I will get the same error code :^( Yep, get same error :^(=!! -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So you did not use openSUSE rpm's but the zip file from menalto/gallery? I can and have installed the meanlto/gallery version. wait -- that's my page ;) I have not tried on opensuse 13X, but I can tell you there are some larger problems with later php5.4.x and php5.5 that cause problems with the way page inclusions were handled in older php packages. Right now Avantfax (fax frontend to hylafax) died after an update a while back. All php.ini path/open_basedir settings were fine, but the php app would not run due to page inclusion issues with require_once and other calls. I haven't got to the bottom of it yet. I would suspect that all of the older php apps are going to have some issues. (I hope not many, because with squirrelmail, avantfax, egroupware and gallery2 - it could easily be a long haul to get everything running again. If anybody gets to the root of the problem, Please let me (and the list) know, I suspect there are a lot similarly situated. The photo-mgmt.php page was one I did back with 11.0. So if we find things that need to be added or changed, let me know. Thanks Bob. - -- David C. I myself use piwigo, which is a similar application http://dodin.info/piwigo/index.php no problem with 12.3, but as I want to use the evergreen 13.1 version, I'm interested about php eventual problems. there is a thread running on the php subject on the mailing list of pmwiki, an other of the applications I use http://www.pmichaud.com/pipermail/pmwiki-users/2014-January/061924.html it's a bit difficult for me to understand, but may be you can find infos there jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I looked and I will have to look more. the piwigo page makes just general reference to problems due to deprecated php features as of 5.5. [1] What I ran into were Fatal errors like: [Fri Dec 13 18:38:38 2013] [error] [client 192.168.6.102] PHP Fatal error: Class 'Smarty' not found in /srv/http/avantfax/includes/classes.php on line 30 This related to php class include routines. For some reason new php5 causes older class inclusion routines not to work in Avantfax. Thankfully, on my server that I have not upgraded to php 5.5, gallery2 (ver 2.3) still works well with php 5.4.5-1. -footnotes- [1] (I don't think 'deprecated' is the correct word, more correctly 'new/changed features that render old code broken') -- David C.
