[SuSE Linux] Re: [SuSE Beta] 6.0 Beta + SO 5.0 ???
YES -- I had the same trouble with SO 5.0 and SuSe 6.0 beta. You could blame the 6.0 beta for not being an exact glibc 2.0.7 setup or you could blame SO 5.0's install program for being too picky about what libraries to look for. Bottom line is that the libc setup for 6.0 is not what SO5.0 was hoping to see. There is a SO dir (in the install tree) that has a glibc setup and instructions on how to install/fix glibc. It has a nice summary of which linux distributions have which libc's. (doesn't list SuSE 6.0 yet) SO 5.0 has a glibc directory that will install the 'right' version of glibc -- I did it on 5.3, but I did not want to do it on my 6.0 box for now... Anyone tried Oracle8 with 6.0? I used the glibc-rh.rpm from www.suse.com on my 5.3 system to try to get Oracle8 going. It worked some, but then I had linker trouble. I don't like the idea of having to force a SO glibc on my 6.0 system. I don't like loading a glibc-rh.rpm on my 6.0 box. I had this trouble with Software from Avant! corporation too. Ideas? eric Harald Radke wrote:
Hi all !
Am quite desperated after crashing my linux box again, 5th time after trying to install Star Office 5.0 under SuSe 6.0 beta...
prob seems to be the ld stuff...
I tried several ways...
- the soprep script well...system dead after it remoced ld-linux.so.2
- by hand like the README coming with the glibc2 package of SO 5.0 told me...well same effect as above (ok, I have to admit I just hasitated a bit before executing the suggested "rm -f /lib/ld-linux.so.2) ....
- I copied the 2.0.7 linker to lib and ran ld-config, which set the link to it...no direct crash (suprise, surprise) but some binaries coming with SuSe just decided to pout and stopped working...actually result is similar to a crash...
ok..any guiding hand ???
Darn, never thought I would get Winblows-like trouble under the sign of the pinguin...
