I did that. I think you have to login again so now try: mysql -u root -p Then enter foobar when it asks for your password and you should see a mysql prompt.

It seems like there was an old (and forgotten) install of mySQL on the box. I had removed it months ago, but apparently it failed to clear the acccesslist (or whatever) It turned out that it was root's ordinary password???? What files should i clean out manually when uninstalling mySQL? - -- /Rikard - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 (0)735 05 51 01 - ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFALH5WWdS2eEYc7lYRAj18AKDgIH3KsRg6zQQnbMyQchZ6pxaNfwCgzBqF KWgdBfjdUVeg2B3eFESaKdA= =E1bn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
