I think your system may have corrupted file associations. In Konqueror click menu Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> File Associations -> Text -> HTML.
There are two tabs there: General and Embedded.
In the General tab make Konqueror be the first app in the list.
In the Embedded tab make KHTML (khtml) be the first app in the list.
Then click OK and try again to see whether Konqueror works ok. Thanks NSK. I hadn't noticed the "embedded" tab :-) However, the error has now changed to "There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle
