We are replacing in our office Word and Excel with Applix, for wordprocessing and spreadsheet work.
Does anybody know a good replacement for Access database in the Linux environment? It can be also a flat file database, if there is no relational database.

Are you saying you want a monolithic style database in the tradition of access? I use access97 quite a bit at work. I am at a point with linux where I want to learn to use the client-serving databases and sql stuff. I would suggest a few different databases for your consideration: ADABAS D - at the suse web site EMPRESS - at www.empress.com. ADABAS D is interesting but it does not have the monolithic character. Empress has a lot of tools from what I can see. The new ADABAS D looks real good with its tcl/tk interface, access tools (this may be interesting for you), and other stuff. For my own personal stuff at home I use qddb. It is amazingly cheap and quite powerful. There is qddb on the distro as well as adabas and perhaps a few other databases. I did purchase ADABAS D 6 but had a slight learning curve problem with it. I could not digest the literally thousands of web based pages on it. I do better with a printed manual. I know these do not include all the databases out there. For me, qddb allowed me start building a web based time and activity database for my company. It will be served on a SuSE linux distribution at work.
