[opensuse] google chrome and chromium
Hi I have chromium running on 11.4 from the contrib repo. I'd like to have chrome. It's a faster and I could download it on 11.3 from the google chrome download page. For 11.4 I can't install it as too many dependencies are not met. Has anyone managed to get chrome on 11.4? Thanks L. x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

google-chrome is running fine here (oS 11.4, KDE:Distro:Factory) from this repo: http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64 at which i arrived via this URL: http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?platform=linux_fedora_x86_64 (don't let the mention of "fedora" in this URL disturb you; the repo is meant for fedora & openSUSE.) -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

This gives a 404 error
at which i arrived via this URL: http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?platform=linux_fedora_x86_64
This one works and installs. i586 in my case.

Yep. that's the one I tried. Gives me: /opt/google/chrome> google-chrome /usr/bin/google-chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory or: /opt/google/chrome> ./chrome ./chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so.1d: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. What's the command to launch it at the cli anyway? Any ideas? And thanks phanisvara for the reply. 11.4 i586 L x This is i586. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

you can't browse it, but add it to your repos.

...

you'll have to install libpng12-0, available from OSS. apparently this google repo didn't get it's dependencies straight.
or:
/opt/google/chrome> ./chrome ./chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so.1d: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
don't know about this one, never seen it. mozilla-nss provides libnss3.so; don't know about "~.1d"
What's the command to launch it at the cli anyway?

You get bitten by this dependency for Skype as well. openSUSE has libpng14. Chrome, Skype and others require libpng12... but don't pull in that dependency when you install from RPM. Yes. That did it. I installed libpng12-0 using yast and now it works. Thanks. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Almost, 'casi'. is significant. Can I have chrome anyway and compare it? Thanks. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

i didn't notice any speed difference either--in fact no difference whatsoever. i think google-chrome talks back more to google, about my browsing habits or whatever, but that doesn't really concern me. i installed it because at one point the chromium version from oS repos didn't work (dependency issues), and the google version did. i'll switch back as soon as this one gives me trouble... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
