(SLE] SuSE 10.1 - e1000 1GB NIC - Samba server - Problems printing from windows.
Hello, I've the following network configuration : - Netgear ADSL modem, router, firewall and 100MB switch on this switch are connected my 100 MB computers and a - Netgear 100/1000 switch on this switch are connected my two 1GB computers : desktop and laptop Every thing works fine with XP for file and printer sharing, but when my desktop runs with Linux and a samba server, file sharing works but I'm unable to print from windows boxes to the printers shared by my desktop, even from Windows running with VMware in my desktop !! I tried a lot of things and found that if I force my desktop NIC to run at 100MB everything is OK, but I loose the capabilities of my 1GB subnetwork. Any suggestion to solve this issue will be welcome. Thanks in advance. Michel.

Got this from the kernel list the other day... perhaps it applies to your problem. Commit 581d708eb47cccb5f41bc0817e50c9b004011ba8 (oct. 5 2005) introduced partial Multiqueue support for e1000 which broke macro smartness in setting up head/tail registers for 82542 rev3 chipsets, making these adapters completely non-working since 2.6.15. This commit sets the proper head and tail registers for read and write descriptor rings. This fix was tested on an 82542 rev3 NIC and newer NICs.
