[SLE] Netscape Communicator 4.61 Memory Leaks
I'm using SuSE 6.2. I very much like Netscape's products, but am plagued with almost non-stop freezes. I guess these are memory leaks. I actually have to reboot to regain use of Netscape. And, the question is: what is the best remedy for this age-old problem? What version of Mozilla comes with SuSE 6.4? Is it stable? Are the SuSE 6.4 Netscape products stable? Press while in X: CTL-ALT-F6 .. CTL-ALT-F2 and login into another tty and do: bash> ps aux | grep netscape bash> kill -9 <pid> or bash> killall -9 netscape This will at least save you from having to reboot everytime. This can be a real annoyance, one in which has lead me to hate netscape. One thing which I have found helps at least temporarily is purging the file cache and memory cache in netscape.
What version of Mozilla comes with SuSE 6.4? Is it stable?

Netscape 4.7 or better yet 4.72 appears to have cleared up this problem. 4.7 is available with SuSE 6.3, and you can download 4.72 with 128 bit encryption from the netscape site. It downloads as a tarball and is very easy to install. I'm using it now, and wonder of wonders, I leave it running for days at a time. Try that with 4.61! Java appears to work correctly, also.
