hi, I also had the same problem. I also have mailed about the problem before but didn't find a proper solution. Seems quite a few people have this problem with the printer configuration in 9.1 Pro. But luckily it worked when I upgraded to KDE 3.4. I don't know if this had made a difference, but after updating to KDE 3.4, I configured a network printer to work with my machine. Now I am able to take printouts on the network printer from my machine without any problem(so far). One of my friends is still with the default KDE version that came with SuSE. I too have this problem and sadly didn't get any replies when I asked a few days ago (I didn't receive Chris's message either, don't know why). Looks like we need to collect some information. I have several systems: 9.1 on pentium4, kde 3.2.1, kernel 2.6.4-52-smp - works fine on a couple of machines 9.2 on dual xeon & dual opteron, kde 3.3.0, kernel 2.6.8-24.14-smp - fails on three machines (at 60% rather than 50% :) I've attached the part from /var/log/YaST2/y2log where I tried to configure the printer. Can anybody shed any light on this?
I just got another data point on this question. I ran yast on one of my machines whilst its twin was switched off. This time yast didn't hang! I brought the other machine back up again and yast hangs once more. Does this give anybody a clue? I haven't managed to find anything useful with google and nothing at all in the suse support database. Thanks, Dave

I found out a way to fix this. It may or may not be what was causing it :) As well as the yast printer configuration hanging as described above, I have also seen somewhat related symptoms: - yast's suseconfig hanging in the tetex bit - lpoptions -l hanging The problem seems to be due to cups sending multicast requests and not timing them out. (strace shows lpoptions hanging on a recvmsg after sending packets to some random printer on our network) Anyway, I have several network interfaces on the machines where these symptoms are occurring, including an interface that isn't plugged in. Running ifdown on this interface makes the symptoms go away. Cheers, Dave
