[oS-EN] Silly question re laptop hardware (that uses Linux)
Hi Some months ago I bought a laptop. I customized it. One of the options was memory card reader. My surprise was when it finally came, that it is a microSD slot. Do some one know of an adapter to plug an SDHC/SDXC card (normal sized) into a microSD slot? How is that thing named (if it exists)? I tried Amazon, no hits. Filtering in Amazon is terrible, anyway. I have o travel with a card reader, multiple formats, it is a big with cable. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.5 (Laicolasse))

They do exist, but a card reader might be easier and not much more bulky. https://www.pcboard.ca/sd-to-micro-sd-adapter https://cablematic.com/en/products/microsd-tf-adapter-to-sdhc-sdxc-sd-card-s... Thanks! That cable is less bulkier than the one of my reader.

Sigh, Google searches better than Amazon. And I was using Spanish. Now I found one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07JMTW1YD Most of what Amazon finds is incorrect for this thing. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.5 (Laicolasse))

Si, señor. Amazon search is terrible these days, IMHO. Cory Doctorow explains why: https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/28/enshittification/ I try to avoid the company whenever I can. I'd rather buy from AliExpress, or failing that, eBay. -- Liam Proven ~ Profile: https://about.me/liamproven Email: lproven@cix.co.uk ~ gMail/gTalk/FB: lproven@gmail.com Twitter/LinkedIn: lproven ~ Skype: liamproven IoM: (+44) 7624 277612: UK: (+44) 7939-087884 Czech [+ WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal]: (+420) 702-829-053

I just Googled:
sd to micro sd adapter
Nice. I first tried "micro sd to sd adapter" and came up with nothing, but was successful with: "micro sd" card extender Also, try "sd card extender" on amazon.com. Trick: This is the same link, less tracking: <https://www.amazon.com/LANMU-Extension-Extender-Compatible-Printers/dp/B09C8G3VDN/> Or this: <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09C8G3VDN/> which for Spain is <https://www.amazon.es/dp/B09C8G3VDN/> But product is not available. As I happen to be traveling at the other side of the pond, I got this one: <https://www.amazon.ca/AFUNTA-Extension-Extender-Compatible-Raspberry/dp/B07JMTW1YD> It does work, but there are a lot of read errors that translate to apparent corrupted media. Fortunately, nothing was written and I could read my camera photos with my USB card reader. I will have to try again, but with a card that doesn't contain important photos. The connecting cable is too long, very thin and apparently too delicate. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.5 (Laicolasse))

I'd go for a real card-reader that connects via a USB dongle. Readers should have at least 5 slots. Everything from SD/microSD to MMC, and all in between. I can't believe you ordered a card reader on a laptop and it only came with a microSD slot. Most I've see are the full SD card and you use a caddy or separate USB for the micro reader. Note also, the USB card readers usually have both micro and regular SD slots. Some look like a simple flash-drive with no cable dongle and just plug in via the USB male connector sticking out one side of the reader. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

As I said before, I do have a real card-reader via USB dongle, and it is significantly larger than the card adapter.

you can find very small usb to micro sd reader, by the way I try to always buy micro sd cards :-) https://www.amazon.fr/SanDisk-SDDR-B531-GN6NN-Lecteur-Carte-microSD/dp/B07G5... and these devices are often much faster than included devices jdd -- c'est quoi, usenet? http://www.dodin.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Usenet.Usenet

My cameras all use "normal" sized cards. I do not like the idea of using a micro card plus adapter. Phones and tablets that use microcards, I never remove them. I had a tiny adapter, but it worked badly. So the current one is brand name, biggish, and works fabulously.

I do this most of the time without problem. If an adapter don't works, I drop it on trash
