Hello list On a system 7.2 I was using rcppppoed to set a permanent ADSL connection at boot up that readial everytime was down.... In 7.3 I saw it is changed to rcsmppd. How do I set up a connection to be permanent and redial in every drop? I know there is /etc/smpppd, /etc/pppoed, /etc/ppp/*, and it is not clear to me what are the config files to setup. I tried to add a "persist" line in /etc/ppp/peers/pppoe but doesn't keep a permanent connection. Cheers Pep Serrano

shouldn't you do a setup in adsl in yast network basic, then put idle-time on: 99999999 now use kinternet piet

Wouldn't an idle time of 0 (disabling the idle-time function) be more appropriate for a constant connection? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org
Hello PR, First of all thanks for your answer. Second, sorry list, I tried to explain better my problem and this is a very large message (no more space in your disks :-?). But this is not what I am looking for. I even do not have kinternet or X at all in this box... It is just a inet gateway suposed to work unattended. So, what I want is something that starts pppoed at boot time (as it used to be with rcpppoed in 7.2) and something that reconnects everytime the connections drops. All together makes a permanent unattended ADSL connection. It worked fine with 7.2, but now there is no longer rcpppoed and 7.3 comes with smpppd. I tried to configure the following options... /etc/smpppd.conf provider = "adsl" start-on-start = always stop-on-disconnect = always /etc/rc.dialout ADSL_NAME_0="adsl" ADSL_DEVICE_0="eth0" /etc/pppoed.conf interface = "eth0" user = "xxxxx" password = "xxxxx" demand = "no" idle = "no" /etc/ppp/options lcp-echo-interval 30 lcp-echo-failure 4 /etc/ppp/peers/pppoed persist holdoff 10 It works fine... I mean it connects at boot time (sometimes) and it reconnects when it gets disconnetion. Still it is not clear to me yet how do work all this config files together... However, if I reboot my box when is already connected, next time it will start rcsmpppd and the pppd at boot time but will not bring up the connection (ppp0). After one hour or so... then it gets reconnected. Here are the important messages in the syslog (is large sorry): Apr 11 14:21:26 gregg syslogd 1.4.1: restart. By the way, idle-time to zero disables disconnection at all. Pep Serrano.
