And that added to the discussion exactly what!?! I have a G4 with 10.4 on it. And i also have problems printing through cups. I don't get any errors or anyting. It spools nicely, but nothing gets through to the server. Where to look? At the client or the server? -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob : +46 (0)736 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Since the OP didn't say what OS they were running on the mac...and they didn't say what version of suse...or what printer they were using...

I had a cups server running on a test box I had set up some time ago. For me to get it running, it had to be simple. If I remember right I followed the manual from suse that I printed out... I don't have it running anymore. Look at the server...if I remember right, I had to make sure something was being shared that wasn't out of the box. Also, check those filters. This didn't work for mac running os9 (we still have a few) but did work for OSX (10.2 on up). I never did get netatalk running... -- Thanks, George If Olive oil comes from olives, Corn oil comes from corn, Peanut oil comes from peanuts, Fish oil comes from fish, Where does baby oil come from?

I googled and found some TCP/IP thing to add to OS 9 to print to TCP/IP printers, including I'm sure CUPS. All OS 9 boxes are now departed and we have OS X printing to a CUPS server on Sarge. OS X isn't as nice as Linux in that respect (or maybe it's just that I'm better with Linux); on Linux they just appear, whereas on OS X one has to add a shared printer.

As far as I know, cups is the official print system on Mac OS X, so if you can't print "through cups" on it, then you can't print at all

Both, until you find out where the problem is. If it doesn't get sent to the server and you don't get any error messages, then your client is probably not configured to use the server at all, since if it were and it failed, something would be logged somewhere. On the server, /var/log/cups/ would be a good place to start. On the Mac client, I haven't a clue. But I would probably have a close look at how it's configured. Firewall rules might be interesting to look at too
