Update of Java SDK to 1.5.0_06 Coming?
Hi, Does SuSE have any plans to keep their Java packages for SuSE 10.0 up-to-date with new releases from Sun? We're currently falling a little behind, still being at 1.5.0_03 while Sun has released 1.5.0_06. Randall Schulz
Hi, I already made an update to 1.5.0_05 rpms backporting suse.spec file, but I _can't_ release them because of java license. You can read the thread: http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse-packaging/2005-Nov/0061.html Guillermo El Jueves, 1 de Diciembre de 2005 19:29, Randall R Schulz escribió:

No, we're doing this only for the next product since new versions might cause other packages to fail... Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

That is extremely unlikely. Not a good excuse at all.

It might be unlikely in this specific case but it might happen - and it still needs testing etc. From my experience with distribution build and with SUSE having several hundreds of Java packages, this is nothing that is done lightely. Btw. we have a policy at SUSE that we're not making version updates for old products unless there's a security problem that cannot be fixed. For new versions, you really need to wait for the next release, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

I'll bet that experience relates to C and C++ software, not Java, right? The likelihood of the 1.5.0_03 -> 1.5.0_06 breaking anything is remote at the most.

What's "old" about SuSE Linux 10.0 and Java 5.0?

too all kind of software, GCC is the worst ;-)

10.0 comes with Java 5.0 - and 10.0 comes with 03 - and release 06 or newer will be in 10.1... Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
