I upgraded KDE by adding install source from /KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source/ and selecting update. Seemed to work. My Kmail shows 3.2.3 for kde. Questions 1.) Why are some packages shown in red with source being new not getting installed? a.) Why after choosing to install that it WILL install, then YOU will show an update for the same package and revert back to what was there? Specific version dependency? 2.) Where did kpackage go? How can I easily see what packages (that aren't handled by YaST) are installed? B-) P.S. SuSE 9.1 x86_64 amd

If put your cursor on these red packages, it will tell you that what you have is newer than or the same as what is on the server.
(sorry for the double message brad) Where is this install source located? I don't see it on the usual suse mirror trees... -----Original Message----- From: Brad Bourn [mailto:brad@summitrd.com] Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2004 11:29 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Yast Questions I upgraded KDE by adding install source from /KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source/ and selecting update. Unfortunately in SuSE the package management and updates work differently and do not take account of each other. The red in the main package manager is _usually_ where a security update has been installed (but could also be red if you installed a replacement package from packman, for instance, manually.) When you "install" that package you are in fact reverting to the newest package available to the package manager (usually the original install media). The next time YOU runs it detects the now out-of-date package, and re-applies the update. Additionally, if you were to add the supplementary packages of the suse mirrors, you would see blue entries in the package manager denoting packages with more recent versions available. -- Steve Boddy
