An error message only a mother could love.... Zmd updater listed a whole mess of packages (85) that could be updated, and after grinding on dependencies for seemingly two years, it spat up the error message: Resolvable id 226576 does not exist. This is somewhat less than helpful guys... So I jumped into Yast, and ran online update. It found all the same packages, and when I clicked the Accept button, it abended. Simply closed, and disappeared. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

This is a glitch which we are not able to pinpoint yet. It will be gone on the next run. :(

If YOU closes when pressing "Accept" this is "GOOD" and means "No updats needed to be applied". Ciao, marcus
Hello everyone, I do not know exactly how zenupdater works, but I tihink it works in a similar way YUM (Yellowdog Updater Modified) does. I had trouble working with yum in Fedora Core series. Yum, gets all the data from index files on the servers. Does Zen work in a similar way? If so, zenupdater had better get all the data from the package index. The way zen fails resolving dependencies is I think, in the case of multiple repos identified. I had two installations. One has official installation and update repos, the other has pacman repos added besides official update and install ones. The second box failed to update once while the other one succeded. I run zen-updater clı agent rug to update in order to get a brief insight of it. I think it is where developers should look for meta data parsing and creating meta data for repos. I am terribly sorry that I can not enclose the failed patch list but YAST always get it right. Goksin Akdeniz

Except that I was staring at a screen full of updates needing to be applied at the time..... -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

If you hit this again, create a bugreport and attach /var/log/zmd-backend.log /var/log/zmd-messages.log and /var/lib/zmd/zmd.db This hits some users occasionally but so far it vanished after some time and we did not get enough information to really debug it :-(

Are you running the latest online update? Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@suse.de, http://www.suse.de/~aj/ SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

As I mentioned above yesterday there were 85 updates available. Today the little nameless icon in the tray indicated 86. So I launched it again and it successfully resolved dependencies, and proceed to update 86 packages (all KDE stuff). So I am guessing this was a temporary problem of some package not being available at the time. Would be nice if the code were to spit out the actual name. At the bottom of this email I have pasted the pertinent section from /var/log/zmd-backend.log from the update that Failed. Will send more if you need.

I think so, I got them from your directory, and neither YOU nor ZUM indicated any updates available for Yast. ----------log extract 2006-09-08 01:29:10 <1> pen(20033) [solver] Resolver.cc(resolveDependencies):606 Resolver::resolveDependencies() 2006-09-08 01:29:10 <5> pen(20033) [solver] Resolver.cc(resolveDependencies):723 Empty Queue, nothing to resolve 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <1> pen(20033) [solver] Resolver.cc(resolveDependencies):606 Resolver::resolveDependencies() 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <0> pen(20033) [solver] Resolver.cc(resolveDependencies):740 Pend 1 / Cmpl 0 / Prun 0 / Defr 0 / Invl 0 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <0> pen(20033) [solver] Resolver.cc(resolveDependencies):811 Pend 0 / Cmpl 1 / Prun 0 / Defr 0 / Invl 0 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <1> pen(20033) [transactions] transactions.cc(read_transactions):97 read_transactions 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <3> pen(20033) [transactions] transactions.cc(read_transactions):121 Can't find res object id 226 576 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <3> pen(20033) [transactions] transactions.cc(read_transactions):150 Error reading transaction pa ckages: not an error 2006-09-08 01:29:11 <1> pen(20033) [zypp::SourceManager] SourceManager.cc(~SourceManager):139 Deleted SourceManager S ingleton. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
