[opensuse] Filesystem corruption on external USB disk
Hi, i'm experiencing FS corruption on top of a USB from Transcend (StoreJet Elite 3.5") on OS 11.1@x86_64. It uses a JMicron controller and I've tried with XFS, Reiserfs and Ext3. Anybody have seen this?. As writing with dd to the whole disk doesn't fail, i'm not sure how to report it.... Yes. 2008-12-17: [Bug 460020] New: External USB disk (encrypted, reiserfs) gets corruption. 2009-02-01: [Bug 471382] New: External USB disk (encrypted, reiserfs) gets corrupted and becomes read-only. It appears on 11.0;, 10.3 and 11.1 are ok.

Apparently it's a hardware issue, the provider took the HDD for testing, i'll report back what's the outcome.. Regards, -- Ciro Iriarte http://cyruspy.wordpress.com -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

In my case, it is software. It worked with 10.3, stopped working with 11.0, and works fine with 11.1. Same hardware on all tests. Furthermore: It works if I use it from inside a vmware 11.1 guest on a 11.0 host, and export it via NFS from 11.1 to 11.0. Software! yagh :-( - -- Cheers, Carlos E. They had issues with Windows too, the disk was replaced, the provider tested it with Windows and it was fine. Now I reformated as XFS and created a virtual disk for Virtualbox on top of it. The VM got I/O errors after copying 4GB of data. :s Two disks in a row are unlikely to be faulty. I'm running 11.1 so it can't be the same issue you mention as it works on 11.1 in your case.
