firefox has abruptly quit working for me after months w/o problems. If I try running from command line I get: (Gecko:23512): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gobject.c: line 1579 (g_object_unref): assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed /usr/bin/firefox: line 254: 23512 Segmentation fault $MOZ_PROGRAM $MOZ_LANG I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and get same error. I'm running Suse 9.2 and firefox 1.0.4-1.1. I also tried going back to base version 0.10.0-14 that comes on Suse DVD and get same error. If I run as root in a terminal I get sh: kde-config: command not found sh: kde-config: command not found and then firefox comes up but all my config info (bookmarks etc) is gone. (Since I have no intention of running firefox as root this is not a workaround) Could someone give me a nudge in the right direction to fix this?

Hi Patrick, If I hadn't done anything to alter my installed programs or libraries and I encountered an "abrupt" error like that, my first inclination would be to boot into rescue mode and verify that my file system hadn't become corrupted. Who knows? Could be a stray neutrino or something like that, right? :-) Also, you didn't mention /how/ you did these installations, but if you're running rpm on the command line, don't forget to run SuSEconfig and ldconfig afterwards or you'll have similar kinds of problems (spoken from experience.) Good luck & regards, - Carl -- _______________________________________________________________________ C. E. While scanning through old postings to this list about firefox problems I came across someone whose symptoms were different but who was able to solve it by reinstalling gtk-qt-engine. Just for grins I tried it and guess what; problem seems to be all gone. I only wish I knew why... Patrick
