That's a load of bullshit...FreeBSD handles tb's of data...they were bought by the fact that someone has to supply hd's for xbox's and they want it. ;) * Fred A. Whatever the reason is, when I saw the 'Dumps' part in the original
article's title, one thing came to my mind: Microsoft's PR department at
work. The word DUMP is so harsh and inflamatory, that it must come from
the MS PR department.

Maxtor drives are amongst the most unreliable out there, so its actually good in the long run for FreeBSD....Guess Maxtor could blame MS for a crash and then MS could blame Maxtor, so no-one would ever know who is at fault...Ever been in that position before? :-) Matt On Wednesday 07 March 2001 20:38, Avi Schwartz wrote:

Just a few years ago I had a WD in my computer. It failed with less than a year of operation. WD took around 8 weeks to replace it because they were very backed up in delivering drives to replace all those drives that were failing at that time. Why do I think this? A friend had a similar drive installed at about the same time and failed at about the same time. That coupled with WD's feeble excuse that converting to a new record keeping system caused the delays and their letter that apologized for the delay leads me to believe that. As for Maxtor I have had several Maxtors over the last few years and all are still operating flawlessly and some operate 24/7.
BTW, isn't it about time for someone to squawk that this is off topic? :-) Damon Register

I got a hit by back spaceing and resetting the URL Maxtor was a small player and in serious financial trouble. It won't change the final outcome in the Linux vs M$ battle because good quality free will always overcome mediocre quality $$$. Besides, the only time to start worrying is when they put Win2000 into the bios of each machine. JLK

Yet another victory for the ever growing monopoly. Each time people will say it doesn't matter it's just "company x" they were no good any how, but slowly each and every company will be assimilated into the windows monopoly. Microsoft has receive a new wind and they are wasting no time in this new error that will favor monopolies ( cable companies got a good ruling recently as well) over the smaller startups. However, anyone that points this out will be accused of FUD, they will say the government was picking on Microsoft and the other monopolies during the previous administration. During the previous administration, the DOJ collected over 1.4 billion dollars in fines from various monopolies and cartels for price-fixing violations. These price fixing violations were in every area from food additives to products for producing sporting goods, although the only story in the news was about Microsoft. The right wing, hate radio proclaimed this was an abuse of power, others believe it helped keep prices lower for consumers and the economy growing. joe joe
