[opensuse] Blackberry 7100 Series & (openSuSE) Linux 10.2
Hi, I have a friend whom I'm helping make the transition to Linux (openSuSE 10.2). He has a 7100-series Blackberry he'd like to sync with that system. Searching with Google has turned up nothing definitive, but left me with the impression that it might be possible to use this device on Linux (I say that in part because a lot of the hits I got were not in English, so I was left with only a vague impression about what they said). So in fact there are two questions: 1) Is there a way to use a Blackberry 7100 on openSuSE 10.2? It doesn't have to be a stock solution complete with RPMs, we can build the software if necessary (and if it's open source). Ideally integration with the KDE PIM software (KOrganizer, KAddressBook, etc.) is what he's looking for, especially since he's adopted KMail, but something stand-alone might be acceptable. 2) Does anyone know if VMware intends to adapt their software (specifically, VMware Server) to accommodate the USB changes that first appeared in openSuSE 10.2 and that rendered all USB devices unusable in VMware guest VMs? (I'm aware of the option to rebuild a kernel with the requisite USB support reenabled, and we'll do that if necessary.) Thanks. Hmmm....sounds like a challenge! I just got a new 7290 leash - um, I mean - blackberry. I was up in Sacramento today for a big meeting. In the 12 hours or so I was gone, I got a total of 238 messages. (No, I am not subscribed to any non-government mailing lists at work.) Ugh! I'll have to help your "friend" out. What does your "friend" now use? Is it currently connecting to Exchange? In fact, what does your "friend" even do in Windows? I can't say I've ever even done anything with my blackberry devices in Windows other than hook them up to the USB cable to charge them.

Hmm. Interesting. I'll look, too. -- kai Free Compean and Ramos http://www.perfectreign.com/?q=node/46 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, the first thing I found was that - apparently - USB under Linux is different than under Wintendo or Macintosh. (I assume Macs have usb these days even if you can't right-click.) You need to get bcharge, which is part of the barry project, to bump up the USB charge output in order to charge your bb under linux. (I always have mine hooked to my Wintendo system at work or home, so hadn't noticed the decreased voltage until now.) http://www.blackberryforums.com/linux-users-corner/65653-howto-use-bcharge-c... http://sourceforge.net/projects/barry/ In any case, I'm creating a 10.1 rpm right now on my desktop of Barry, if anyone wants it. -- kai Free Compean and Ramos http://www.perfectreign.com/?q=node/46 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
