[opensuse] ax25 out of the blue
For no reason I can think of my machine jumped up and loaded ax25 I wasn't even at the machine at the time, and have no clue what thats for (other than it seems to be for Armature Radio). I get these entries in messages : Dec 18 20:38:47 pen kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 4 Dec 18 20:38:47 pen kernel: ax25: module not supported by Novell, setting U taint flag. Dec 18 20:38:47 pen kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 3 Dec 18 20:38:47 pen kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 5 It didn't do this at boot time, and grepping my logs shows that it loads this very infrequently, like once every 5 or 8 days. What's up with that. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Ok, answering my own question.... Launching Kget causes it to load and (and use) ax25. (and appletalk). As soon as you shut kget down thost two modules become unused. What's THAT all about? -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Can't answer that, but AX25 is not just for Amateur Radio, it is also used extensively in the airline industry, specifically by the reservation systems. /Per Jessen, Zürich who's done a lot of AX25 work in the past. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

AX.25 or X.25? X.25 is a standard method of data communications. AX.25 is a special version of X.25 modified for use on amateur radio. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Beats me which it actually was. The module loaded was ax25 (lower case ax), and the source for that talks about Amateur Radio. It also loaded Appletalk when wget was launched. I have no use for that either. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
