Re: [SuSE Linux] Applixware
I've used it a little and I think that it is pretty average for an office package. A big advantage IMHO is that it lacks the M$ look >and feel that Star Office has. I have tried importing a Claris Works spreadsheet as an Excel spreadsheet and I found that some settings couldn't be changed after the import. Otherwise everything worked pretty much as I expect.
I would like to be able to import Office stuff, because like most people I have to use Winblows at work and would like to use my Suse machine at home to finish my work. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at <A HREF="http://www.hotmail.com</A">http://www.hotmail.com</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I hope that I didn't give the wrong impression here. I don't think that I have come across an office import that works 100% and I if I was M$ I wouldn't be interested in helping anyone do that, rather the opposite. Office is the reason for running windows, something that I have never understood, office is IMHO at best average. FUD worked for IBM for many years and M$ seems to have refined it more. Sorry for the aside, the bottom line is though that if you need 1000ffice compatibility then you need office, Applixware seems to be as good as the others I have tried. ACTUALLY, if you want 100 Office 97 is so internally inconsistent, you NEVER know what's going to happen. This is a rave from one poor guy who just finished a report in Weird 97 (Word 97), because the colleague he was working with started the report in Word rather than LaTeX. Probably because you used a "Header" style for each line, and the default for building TOC's is to base entries on the Header style. In defense of MS Word (V6 in my case), I think it's an excellent word processor. Needlessly feature-rich for many users, true, but it (and Excel) is why I still boot into Win95. My $0.02 of course.
