Freelists show up in a number of places (Oracle, UNIX, etc). They are (almost?) always a reserved list of memory pages. The idea is that you want to reserve a list(s) of blocks of memory for processes. This provides a buffer of memory that, when exhausted, must be satisfied by taking memory from other processes. This is a simplistic explaination; if you would like more info, please ask. Regards, Jim S. Les Hedrington wrote:

Maybe this has been addressed in 2.2.3. There is a patch for inode freelists at: http://www.kernelnotes.org/v22patch/patch-2.2.3/linux_include_linux_mm.h.htm... And another from a later kernal 2.2.4 from Mr. Torvalds himself: http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/9903.3/0110.html The last message raises an interesting question. I have egcs installed. How about the others that have had this problem? Jim S. Jim Sabatke wrote:
