Kwintv failing to start after a reboot.
Hi Listers, I have an Sis 830 motherboard with onboard sound and graphics. Both the sound and graphics are of the accelerated type if that makes sense to you. Suse 8.0 Pro sees both of them and sets them up, it also sees my Wintv Go card and sets it up. After a reboot Kwintv fails to start up forcing me to enter Yast2 and reconfigure it, save the settings and then the program will start. It is the same for Xawtv, this also fails to start until a reconfigure in Yast2 (use xawtv for web cam). I remember seeing this on some earlier post but for the life of me I can not find it in the archives. Can some one point me in the right direction for the cure ? Clive

I found this on the list archive: ------------------------------------------- Either that, or the SuSE people edit the file /etc/permissions.<level> where <level> is easy, secure or paranoid, depending on which setting you're using. It has the lines /opt/kde3/bin/kv4lsetup root.video 2755 /opt/kde2/bin/kv4lsetup root.video 2755 /usr/bin/kv4lsetup root.video 2755 Change them to 4755. ===
This did not work, upon a reboot kwintv would still not startup. But thanks for trying. clive

after you change them to 4755, then run the SuSEConfig. --or-- after you change them to 4755, then run Yast2, re-do the KWinTV. It will run the SuSEConfig with the new "4755" things. So, it will be ok for next time. PS: I have Haupage WinTV and use this trick, and it's work.
