Sorry for the repost but I did not get an answer so here it goes. My video card, a Matrox G 200 went down and a replacement S3, Savage 4 was the replacement. During booting the new hardware was with the 8.1 version recognised correctly and the XF86Config was changed accordingly with Yast2 in console. After reboot I ended up in console. The grafic login did not work. Console works okay but X and KDE are out of reach. What should I do to get X back? -- ! Not on your life ! Can you start X from the console? Type in '/usr/X11R6/bin/X' That will start the server. You will see nothing but a series of dots on the screen, but it shows that your X server is working. To stop it, log in at another console and kill the process. Then try 'startx > startlog' at the console. This should fire up X and KDE. if it doesn't, startlog will contain valuable clues. Hope this helps Basil Fowler On Friday 13 Jun 2003 14:07, Constant Brouerius van Nidek wrote:

From the console, run Sax2 to set up your video card. To have X load at startup (rather than booting into the console and running startx) set the default runlevel to 5 instead of 3. Look in your /etc/inittab file, it should read something like: id:5:default: instead of id:3:default: Hope that helps At 09:07 PM 6/13/2003 +0700, you wrote:
