[opensuse] kernel and opensuse repository
Just aquestion I want to update kernel but if I go in the opensuse reposytory http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=openSUSE:11.1 I do find various kernel, but I don't find a respective kernel-source release. There are hundreds kernels but none as it respective kernel-source release, or there are kernel-source but no respective kernel release. I know I could download from kernel.org and compile it myself but why put hundreds kernel without its respective source release ?? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The source is the same. The difference is .config file that you place in root of kernel source /usr/src/linux before compilation. If you download from kernel.org than it will be vanilla kernel without openSUSE patches. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

you may find these of interest, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/SL111_BRANCH/openSUSE_11.1 i've been working with kernel's from that repo with little prolem; and kernel-source is available. of course, they're not up-to-date with upstream. hth. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I downloaded and compiled vanilla from kernel.org. yes, http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/SL111_BRANCH/openSUSE_11.1 seems to be the only that puts all kernel flavours included source but, as you say, it is really not up-to-date. It seems to me the standard 11.1 kernel or a very very close release -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

in the same parent tree, there's of course http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_Factory/ which currently contains kernel-*-2.6.30-rc4.git1.16.1 although, i personally have no idea if it even boots ... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
