qmail vs. xmailserver (little OT)

Hi there! 1. I would like to setup a medium ISP mail server (about 200 users, 2000 messages/hour, upto 500.000/hour in case of serious spam) and I am still not quite sure: qmail or xmailserver? It has to be a webmail-capable server, too... 2. Do you have rpm's for any one of the above servers? For SuSE 8.2, if possible, of course ;) Thank you! Radu

We don't have rpms for qmail for various reasons but, in any case, it's the sort of software that you really need to install yourself to understand how it works. You can use IMP, sqwebmail, etc. with qmail. -- -ckm

I use qmail on 8.2 without a problem. You requirements as list above will easily be handled on a 486 machine with stock qmail. On a 486 machine, you could pump through over 1 million emails a day. If you want a web interface, obviously you will need something a little more powerful <g> qmail has *never* had a security breech, and there are several web interfaces to use if you wish, having not only mail, but calendar capabilities... answers to all your questions are at www.qmail.org I have used, over the years, Sendmail, Postfix, and now qmail, and I just prefer qmail. There are rpms at the qmail.org site, but it is preferable to install them the first time via tarball, so you get a good working understanding of how qmail works. Actual step-by-step instructions for everything of the install is at www.lifewithqmail.org -- Gary
