FYI, this post concerns SuSE 9.0 Pro on i686. Hi Everybody, 1. Four orphaned links have appeared in my /usr/bin directory: makempy fdf2tan texfind texfont 2. Each points to it's apparent 'parent' :-) in /usr/share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux-libc6, as follows: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 2004-05-03 06:24 makempy -> ../share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux-libc6/makempy lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 2004-05-03 06:24 fdf2tan -> ../share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux-libc6/fdf2tan lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 2004-05-03 06:24 texfind -> ../share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux-libc6/texfind lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 2004-05-03 06:24 texfont -> ../share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux-libc6/texfont 3. ./CD3/suse/i586/te_cont-2.0.2-48.i586.rpm: -rw-r--r-- root root 93024 Jan 23 2003 /usr/share/texmf/context/perltk/texexec.pl plus all relevant documentation and man files. Texexec is mainly a wrapper, so you could live without it. But if you use tex for a variety of invocations it could come in handy. There's a manual in the same package: /usr/share/texmf/doc/context/base/mtexexec.pdf If you only use latex or pdflatex you don't need it. Best regards, -- Jos van Kan

Good morning everybody, Patrick, I checked after your kind response last night and tetex-2.0.2-76-i586.rpm appeared to already be installed. I re-installed it in the off-chance I'd unknowingly done something wicked -- with no apparent effect on the orphaned links. As I've said, I'm not a teTeX user and the only problem I have is I don't like unresolved discrepancies in my file system... it just bugs me for some reason. >:-| If this isn't something to worry about, I won't.
