SuSE installer won't recognize my mouse
I'm installing SuSE 9.2 (I also tried 9.1) on a PC. he installation seemed to recognize the mouse the fisrt time I launched it (PCS) It's a 2-button and central wheel optic mouse with serial interface (I guess) in fact its plug is green and similar to the keyboard plug. It's not a USB interface. The first installation was interrupted by a power failure while reading the 4th CD (it had already gone throigh the 1st, 2nd,3rd CD). By mistake I touched the power cord with my feet under the desk ..I tried to lo launch SuSE from the hard disk. It started with the login dialog. Unluckily I only had configured the root user and no othe ones. I restarted the simulation from scratch reloading from the CD 1 but since then it never recognized the mouse any more. So I cannot make any choice from the installation menus without the mouse as the arrow keys do not jump over the listed menu choices ... What am I supposed to do ???? Thank you in advance for your help, Maura
If I launch SuSE from th hard disk then the KE login menu pops up on the screen. However even if I log in as root still I cannot launch Yast and try to install the mouse. I do not think having another desktop manager would solve my problem... Maura On Wed, 30 Mar 2005, JD. Brown wrote:

You originally kicked the power plug out of the system... I know you plugged the power cord back in BUT did you also check ALL the other cables, especially the mouse cable, to make sure they are all plugged in? If the mouse cord seems to be seated well and is still unresponsive then you should inspect the plug for bent pins. Carefully straighten them if necessary. Do you have another mouse to try instead of this one on this machine? Or swap mice between machines to see if this mouse functions on another machine? Double check your BIOS setup also just in case it changed from the power glitch. Rare but not unheard of. The mouse may have become disabled or changed from PS/2 to something else. If all the external connections, connectors and basic BIOS mouse settings are good then start troubleshooting the OS install and mouse settings there. Sounds like you may have to try another install from scratch if you can't get booted to a console or anything. Could try the rescue or repair options instead of a re-install. Stan

I would give sax2 a spin. Boot your machine to a command prompt. At the prompt type sax2 -a It will ask you for your root password, which I assume you managed to set before accidentally resetting your machine? This should cause the system to look at everything again. --andy -- Alex Lowe's 3 Rules for Climbing: 1 - Come Back Alive! 2 - Come Back Still Friends With Your Partners! 3 - Get To The Top!

Thank you Andy, That is exactly what I was going to say in response. Here's the key sequence for keyboard navigation. Type: alt+F2 to bring up your "Run Command" Box. type in "Konsole". Become root from there and try "sax2 -a" JD

I would like to add that your mouse appears to be a PS2 model. When you are able to choose mouse model opt for the explorer PS2 version. If nothing else works then you may need to restart the install from scratch. Just let the 1st CD do a fresh install wiping everything including the partition table - unless you are dual booting of course. When things have gone awry I've always found this to be the best route rather than trying to repair bits that you are not sure about. -- Take care. I'll try. Thank you. Maura On Wed, 30 Mar 2005, JD. Brown wrote:
