To: those who use both KDE and Gnome. Which manager do you use to select the appropriate Window manager? Why? I ask because I am about to install Gnome 1.4 from a cdrom, and I will have to choose between GDM and KDM at some point in the installation process. Thank you Dennis J. I switch between KDM, GDM, WDM, XDM and startx on whims Why? Because I love to muck about :)

I use KDM for 2 reasons; neither of which is particularly compelling: 1. KDM shows the users for that computer (assuming the default setup). This means that when I am working on different computers which have different users the KDM informs me what users names are valid for that computer. This helps the new users plus myself remembers what is the user name. My company also has a laptop that is basically a loaner for travel purposes. Whoever has borrowed the laptop can see/remember from KDM which user names are valid. 2. Initially I had some difficulties with GDM (probably operator errors) and KDM did not present any difficulties. So I was biased to lowest common denominator.
