[opensuse] OpenSUSE 10.3 Boxes (shipping?)
Hello gys, Does anyone knows if the 10.3 boxes are already shipping? I ordered mine last Monday and I haven't received any shipping notification. It still says "Pre-Order today" on shop.novell.com though... I contacted CS but so far no answer :( Thanks, Jorge -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Mine as well. I ordered it on 10/1. I'm going to call Novell tommorow. I
seem to remember it took a while for 10.2 last year, but not 22 days!
Not to mention they said it was shipping on 10/11 in my email.
By the way, what country are you two in? I'm in the US...

I ordered mine on 9/22. Still haven't seen it. In spite of the promise of free shipping for pre-ordering the invoice lists a shipping charge. I'm in the US. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What bothers me is their lack of response. I went to: http://shop.novell.com/question and provided all my order details and never received any answer. I know they're using "Digital River" as their e-commerce outsource provider but from a customer's perspective they are still Novell for me. I really don't care if I need to wait a couple of more weeks. I just would like to have an idea WHEN will they start shipping. Any update on this Andreas Jaeger? :)

I agree. Most companies like to make their paying customers happy. I
hope Novell is one of them...

Well, we get an ever getting thinner documentation in printed form that once was very good in regard to volume and contents and now is nothing that you really need to have. One less reason to go for Boxes. I somehow can hardly understand that the reasons to buy are minimised, more and more. While I understand that enterprise customer are those that have "real" money, how do they think that Linux was (and is) taken into the enterprise? That was my primary reason for buying 9.3. A nice big thick-wad book that I was able to use as a reference. When 10.0 came out, I promptly ordered again, and was disappointed to see a thin book. Since then, I have downloaded instead. I just thought maybe there might be some additional proprietary software or features in the purchased DVD version to compensate for the decrease in documentation. We know that it's on the PDFs, but as we can get those without buying the box, you can understand that we have one less big reason to buy the box. In fact, the lack of the printed admin book, now called "reference", is the main reason I don't buy the box. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. The Box comes with 2 DVDs. The first one is the downloadable version (but supports both i386 and x86-64), the second one contains the packages that are additionally on the ftp server. So, you get convenience instead of downloading packages yourself. The Box also contains some 300 pages for the Installation Manual, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform/openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

I also miss the SUSE decals they used to put in the boxed edition... and
I'd like for the boxes to ship quickly after the release. Perhaps, they
could ship the boxes the day before public release? I know that would
mean they would have to increase the time between going Gold and the
release, but at least it would mean everyone gets the product on time.
Could you share those ideas with whoever at Novell? Thanks!

so do I. At least they were something to put on your laptop that could easily turn peoples' attention and make them ask questions, even when the lid was closed. One thing to bear in mind, is that it may be coming from some fulfillment company, rather than direct from Novell or SUSE. The german boxes are produced by Sonopress in bulk quantities. I do not know the method of the US one, but it might really be on demand. :/
Sonopress delivers AFAIK from Germany to the US - so it takes a few days longer at least, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform/openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Hello gys,
Does anyone knows if the 10.3 boxes are already shipping? I ordered mine last Monday and I haven't received any shipping notification. It still says "Pre-Order today" on shop.novell.com though...
I contacted CS but so far no answer :(
Thought I'd chime in here as well... ;) I just checked my "confirmation" email from Novell, which I got on Oct 5, 2007 & I noticed a couple of "new-ish" names that all generally resolve to Digital River.. i.e. novellcs@digitalriver.com The messae lists a "customer" number and an order number ( so far so good) and ays what to look for on my credit card and that I need to use the " http://shop.novell.com/question " page for any quetions.. As one of the other players mentioned, it gives that notice : *If the product you have ordered is Built to Order, you will get an e-mail notification when your order is dispatched.* says my Cc wont be charged until I have my boxed set, that I will get a notice before it's shipped.. and oh yeah// Good news !!!! It shows no shipping charge i.e. SubTotal: $59.95 Shipping: $0.00 Tax: $0.00 Total: $59.95 Discount Total: $5.00 oh yeah down at the very bottom of this email this : Please allow the following delivery times: - For Boxed product shipments, please allow 2 - 7 business days for delivery from date of dispatch. - For International Shipments: Shipping charges do not include any Brokerage Fees, Customs Fees or Taxes that you may be charged. Most Omoshiroii , ne ? I too have heard nothing *atoll* since that first day.. when the email I'm quoting bits of turned up. At least I'm said to be getting the no shipping fee" as I was originally. Now if the box w/ the dvd's would turn up, I'd be a happy child... -- j I've lived in the real world enough, we're all here because we ain't all there. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I really miss the time when I could walk into my local CompUSA and pick
up SUSE Linux...
Novell is the only company I buy stuff from that doesn't seem to want my
money...

Andreas Only response I have gotten so far is an email saying its on back order and I will receive and email when it ships. No tentative date or anything else. Appears to be the same email others have received.
Thanks for your interest. I will keep looking on website for status. -- Russ Linux register user 441463 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Earlier TODAY the openSUSE 10.3 box arrived via USPS. A few moments ago I received this email: ======================================================== Dear KENNETH JENNINGS: Your order from Novell on September 22, 2007 has been shipped and your credit card has been charged. Please do not reply to this email. If you have a question regarding your order, please go to http://shop.novell.com/question Product SKU Product Name Qty Ordered Qty Shipped Total Qty Shipped Amount ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 662644471914 openSUSE 10.3 1 1 1 $64.95 ======================================================== It's amazing that USPS is faster than an email server! They charged shipping for a pre-order. I hope Novell doesn't use these jokers again. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
