[opensuse] Workstation refurbished with OpenSuse 13.1, but with some issues
Well, I tried to install from a DVD onto which the iso image was copied, but as it turned out, the only machine I have with a DVD writer has a defective DVD writer. Thus, I installed OpenSuse 12.3, and did a live update to 13.1. For the most part, it seems to work fine. Alas, as might usually be expected, there are some issues. 1) MySQL Workbench does not seem to be available for installation using yast. At first, I tried to build it from source downloaded from MySQL's site, but that failed miserably. I then found an rpm for it (labelled as unstable), but that refused to install. I finally met with success by installing the build of it for 12.3. So, problem solved (in the hopes that at some point, when I deal with software updates, it will get updated too). I mention this just in case someone else needs MySQL Workbench and doesn't find it. 2) I have been using Remmina, on OpenSuse 12.3, to RDP into several Windows servers, without significant issues. However, When I installed Remmina on OpenSuse 13.1, I found that it did not have support for RDP. I looked again, and found that there was an RDP plugin for Remmina, and so installed that, but there was no change in behaviour. No matter what I did, I could not get Remmina to even attempt to make an RDP connection to anything. As a work- around, I tried KRDC, which seems to be adequate. 3) This last issue is undoubtedly a consequence of user error, but I have yet to find a fix. In the expectation that Remmina would work as well on OpenSuse 13.1 as it seems to on 12.3, I hade copied the menu item for it from the menu to that rectangular black 'folder' that is on the desktop by default. By default, it has Firefox, KInfoCenter, Office, 'Online Help' and an OpenSuse icon. I assume it is some kind of special folder, as choosing 'folder view settings' from the popup menu that appears when right-clicking it presents the expected folder settings. Now, when I found Remmina did not work adequately, I tried to delete it, but ended up with that whole black rectangle disappearing instead. How do I get that back?
