hey all. I've been getting a complete freeze on my system. X is stuck and my keybourd lights flash. I can't even ssh into the box to run top. I'm thinking it is the only ext2 harddrive, it only seems to happen when i'm reading or writting large files from that drive. Now I have everything backed up and am ready to switch out drives but I figured I would check and see if anyone has had a experiance like that and make sure i'm on the right track. My other drive is reiserfs by the way. thanks Caleb

I have had similar experiences with a failing drive.... and usually when writing large files. Oddly I can read/write without problems to that same drive from Win2K. My assumption is that Linux is more sensitive to faulty hardware than Windows. Either way, I woudl be seriously suspicious of that drive. One thing you could do is look at /var/log/messages. When my drive was acting up my messages log filled up with error messages about that drive. C.
thanks, I kinda scanned the /var/log/messages, but didn't really look at it close, I will now. Caleb On Tue, 2002-12-17 at 11:25, Clayton Cornell wrote:

Hi I had similar problem until I dropped the system speed just with 0.5% from BIOS. After that, no problems anymore. Jaska. Viestissä Tiistai 17. Joulukuuta 2002 18:25, Clayton Cornell kirjoitti:

Hmm, thats a thought, because now that you mention it the fan goes crazy when it crashes, and after checking the messages log, there is no mention of my drive, I will check my bios. Thanks Caleb On Tue, 2002-12-17 at 23:32, jaakko tamminen wrote:
