[opensuse] Any experiences with ATI 8.32.5 (x86_64)?
Dear list, I tried to install. No problem with that. My Card is a Radeon X300. My System is 64bit. I chose SUSE102/64 within the .run installer. But afterwards I experienced freezes of X. Just after some time lapse. Am I the only one? Is there a "secret" switch in xorg.conf, I don't know? Any comments, suggestions, please? Hello list!
Have you made rpm file? Yes I did. When building the rpm it says (I'm concerned about the 9th line):

Pick one or the other, not both. Looks like you have both the "radeon" and fglrx drivers loaded. the radeon driver conflicts with the fglrx driver. Try commenting out the radeon section. Or better yet comment out the small fglrx entry and then replace the entry where radeon is listed with fglrx. If your still having problems getting fglrx running then run "/usr/sbin/atigetsysteminfo.sh" and it will detail what's missing. I had a problem with fglrx_dri.so not being in the right place and was going nuts trying to figure out why no hardware 3D - then ran the atigetsysteminfo command, it found out what was missing - the fglrx_dri.so file was indeed in the system but not in the place it was expected to be at - so I simply compied the file to the approp directory and voila - 3D. Your issues may not be similar but the atiget command may help you figure it out. HTH, Curtis. -- Spammers Beware: Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again! I'm not seeing freezes except in google earth, but virtually any attempt to do video generates an instant x server crash. Mplayer, Xine, VLC, Realplayer, all crash the x server with out so much as a single line in any of the logs. I've never got that far. I have an X300 and I have only ever got a black
screen.

Yes, I've had experiences with ATI 8.32.5 (x86_64), and they still keep me awake at night. I have Radeon X800 XL. Making the *.rpm went fine; installing it -- no problemo -- configuring X... no, I couldn't get that 'Sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx' thing working, so I started YaST as usual instead and made all the changes I wanted, and the test went fine but when I clicked OK everything froze. RESET! Nothing was written to xorg.conf -- still 2D. Ok, so, let's do the YaST thing again but without the test, just close SaX and restart the computer. It went fine! Everything worked and I had 3D but everytime I logged out everything froze again and I had to RESET in order to shut down. Not good. Back too 10.1 and when 10.2 no 3D. A bit sad. I'm thinking of buying a nVidia card instead. /Lars Johannes Nohl skrev:
