Greets; On a new install of SuSE 9.2 ftp version and then updating to latest KDE release from ftp.kde.org ran across a new error not seen in the past with the same combination and rev levels or representative apps: OpenOffice.org (suse-novell version) now segfaults when file>open from the main OOo dialogue. This one is new to me as Ive not seen this before. Debug is attached for review. Is this a known issue? Is there a pending solution or comments on this some where. I ran into exactly the same problem, and posted a message on the suse list , but got no answer. As I absolutely need OO, I reverted to Kde3.3.2. The day after, I reinstalled 3.4, and was back with the same OpenOffice problem. I then read the reviews about SuSe 9.3 including the new OpenOffice 2.0, and I looked up the OO website, where a not quite finished version was available. I downloaded it, installed it, and it works just fine with Kde 3.4. Plus it includes new goodies like a script to download and install new fonts, which is really nice. fx

I removed the package OpenOffice_org-kde and all was well. -- __________ CorvusE Linux User #370082

I did the same because I too use OpenOffice a lot and I needed some of the new features not available in SUSE's OOo-1.3 builds. For those wondering about OOo-2.0-Beta and kde-3.4, I installed both, kde first, and my system is running fine. I haven't had any problems and OOo v.2 has many new features. Christopher Shanahan

Well thats one solution that works for sure. Whats interesting is the SUSE-Novell add "a lot" of customizations to their version of OOo which are lost upon going this route. /ch

Very true; however, SUSE doesn't release interim builds. In other words, they don't release their custom builds of OOo between SUSE distro releases. You either use the OOo-1.3 build that shipped with 9.2 --with patches-- or you wait until they release 9.3 and get whatever OOo build they ship with that release. Am I mistaken? Have I missed a SUSE OOo build somewhere on their FTP site --or one of its mirrors-- for OOo-1.4 or OOo-1.5? Christopher Shanahan

No. You haven't missed an update. There have been none. We also use OOo heavily and had to switch to 1.1.4. We have had a SuSE feedback ticket open on a java issue since 9.2 came out. I really can't work out why they complicate what really is an efficient and simple installation from the openoffice.org tarball. Steve.

I tried OOo v2 and found that simpress seems to have problems. So, I might have downloaded a very early version so may try it again. Question I have is concerning a USB hard drive that is an WD IDE HD. It is in a Cypress Semiconductor Corp. USB 2.0 device which is plugged into a USB 2 ASUS motherborad. Problem is sometimes it is spotted ( lsusb ) however, it will not mount as /dev/sd*. I get the following erro: " mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist " . I have had it mount correctly and then not correctly. " mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 " has failed and worked. lsusb seems to show that it "timed out" because it is plugged in a nd powered up. My Lexar Media, Inc. Stick drive works almost every time What SuSE relate usb tracking program is controlling plugiged in devices? -- 73 de Donn Washburn Hpage: " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB Email: " n5xwb@hal-pc.org " 307 Savoy St. " n5xwb@arrl.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 " http://counter.li.org " #279316
