With the latest Skype for Linux version 8.xx I still have lots of problems with sound which entered in Skype since the last working Skype 4.3 Was lurking on the web and found that there are some Linux Skype users who found ways to use their 4.3 version. Lost that info and can not find the Skype v4.3 rpm for the install. Same as the way around the version 4.3 no-no which was build in the use of skypeforlinux. Hi, I haven't used 4.x because Skype 8.x works without a problem on my Lenovo with Tumbleweed on. But here it is. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:XRevan86:non-free/skype-legacy But as 4.x and 8.x is completely different it might be better to try to solve (or at least get down to the bottom of it) first. I remember vaguely that you asked before about this on the list but can't remember what was the outcome of that. So I just suggest the findings I used when all was screwed up in the beginning of 8.x 1. Try start it on command line with: PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 skypeforlinux You might be able to lower 90 to 30 or 60 but that's more about your hardware. 2. Is it the official rpm you have used? 3. move $HOME/.Skype and start over? 4. Test the webversion (that skype 8 is based on) web.skype.com in different browsers. regards, -- /bengan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You could try Skype for Web. It uses a browser. web.skype.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had used 4.3 (and in doubt still have skype-4.3.0.37-suse.i586.rpm around, if you need), but I stopped using it when MS killed the old API. At least, I could no longer log in anymore. The new one worked for my simple needs without issues, but I find the new 'fancy' GUI so horrible/unusable that I basically don't use skype anymore at all... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

According to this, Microsoft reversed the decision to shut down 7.0. Is 4.3 still usable? I recall I had to update a few years back. https://techcrunch.com/2018/08/07/microsoft-decides-to-support-skype-classic... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

An alternative is Google Hangouts . Not really if all your contacts use skype, since calls can only be skype-user to skype-user. Since years I simply tell contacts I will not use skype, and still they know how to find and call me.

Or Duo. Is it the new name? :-? Here, Whatsapp is very popular and has video conferencing and voice chat. Or simply send a voice message which will be listened to when convenient. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Does Duo work on a computer? I thought it was phones only, not even tablets.
Good question. On FF, on the Gmail page, I see Hangout is being offered. I'm a bit confused between Hangouts and Duo. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Duo is just video chat and apparently it does work on tablets too. Hangouts is messaging, video chat, including confgerences, phone calls, etc.. Hangouts also ties into Google calendar for scheduling video conferences and more, so it also has a lot of business uses. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Either people don't see my email or they don't understand them. I already showed a version on build with 4.3. That was the link I was hoping for. Never seen any mention of the skype- legacy. The one click install did not work for my so I downloaded the rpm. As would like to keep up to date I tried to get the url for the download site. Could not enter an accepted url in my software repositories. But that can wait for the moment. Will try out the new Skype and hope to have the fun back. -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20180815 Qt: 5.11.1 KDE Frameworks: 5.48.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.13.4 - kwin 5.13.4 kmail2 5.8.3 - - Kernel: 4.17.14-1-default -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
